ABOUT
A wayfinding signage concept for the city of St.Gallen, Switzerland, developed at the end of my semester abroad there.
St.Gallen is known for its textiles and its highly decorative architecture. As a city, it is home to both historical landmarks and modern art installations. As a nod to the city's reputation for intricate artisanship, I developed the idea of each sign as a folded continuous sheet of steel, with cut-out ornamental forms drawn from St.Gallen's architecture. I chose to set the type in ITC Conduit, to contrast with the historically-informed ornamental forms. I also wanted to accomodate both the city's overwhelmingly German-speaking population and non-German speaking visitors by setting each sign in German with corresponding English translations.
